چکیده

This paper discusses an analysis of how scientists select relevant publications, and an application that can assist scientists in this information selection task. The application, called the Personal Publication Assistant, is based on the assumption that successful information selection is driven by recognizing familiar terms. To adapt itself to a researcher’s interests, the system takes into account what words have been used in a particular researcher’s abstracts, and when these words have been used. The user model underlying the Personal Publication Assistant is based on a rational analysis of memory, and takes the form of a model of declarative memory as developed for the cognitive architecture ACT-R. We discuss an experiment testing the assumptions of this model and present a user study that validates the implementation of the Personal Publication Assistant. The user study shows that the Personal Publication Assistant can successfully make an initial selection of relevant papers from a large collection of scientific literature. 2008 Elsevier B.V. Using Design Strategy Matrix based on Cognitive Usability Model for Mobile Devices in New Product Development

The mobile devices have grown rapidly with the progresses of Information Technology (IT) over past decades. As this reason, mobile devices have become the personal equipments(e.g. iPhone, iPad, Tablet PC and smart-phone). The designs for those devices can be traced to the original design-works of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), which conceptual design integrated the critical issues with perso...

A Generic Personal Assistant Agent Model for Support in Demanding Tasks

Human task performance varies over time, depending on the personal characteristics of the human, the task and the environment. High effectiveness and efficiency levels are of particular importance when tasks of an organisation are demanding and consequences of performance impairment are high. Furthermore, as a longer term aim, the human should remain healthy during the processes of task executi...

Invited Talk: On Mixed Probabilistic and Deterministic Graphical Models

The talk will address algorithms for reasoning over knowledgebases that can express both uncertain information and hard constraints. The need to accommodate both types of information is motivated by real-life applications, especially those involving planning and decisionmaking. Specifically, I will focus on the ”mixed network”, a new framework which integrates probabilistic networks and constra...

Publication Ethics: A Case Series with Recommendations According to Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)

Ethical misconduct is not a new issue in the history of science and literature. However, ethical misconducts in science have grown considerably in the modern era which is due to emphasis on the scientific proliferation in research institutes and gauging scientists according to their publications. In the current case series, several misconducts occurring over the previous years in Mashhad Univer...

Giving Personal Assistant Agents a Case-Based Memory

We consider Personal Assistant (PA) agents as cognitive agents capable of helping users handle tasks at their workplace. A PA must communicate with the user using casual language, sub-contract the requested tasks, and present the results in a timely fashion. This leads to fairly complex cognitive agents. However, in addition, such an agent should learn from previous tasks or exchanges, which wi...
